Facebook has announced a new way in combating phishing scams and its relying on its 955 million users.
On its Facebook Security page, the world’s top social network explained that the public can now report Facebook-related phishing emails directly to the company.
All users need to do is forward the phishing email to the following email address:- phish@fb.com
In the post, Facebook said that by providing Facebook with reports, they can investigate and request for browser blacklisting and site take downs where appropriate.
“This new reporting channel will compliment internal systems we have in place to detect phishing sites attempting to steal Facebook user login information. The internal systems notify our team, so we can gather information on the attack, take the phishing sites offline, and notify users. Affected users will be prompted to change their password and provided education to better protect themselves in the future”, it added.
Some of the fake Facebook emails include links to the fake Facebook website requesting for urgent login or financial information. Facebook is advising users to forward any phishing attempts they encounter, to help keep these sites off the web.
