Alcatel-Lucent & Arbor Networks sets up Lab to counter direct DDoS attacks

Arbor Networks, Inc. and Alcatel-Lucent have established a new Proof of Concept (POC) Laboratory in Singapore for communications service providers to conduct testing of  technologies to mitigate distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks. Arbor Networks is a provider of network security and management solutions for enterprise and service provider networks while Alcatel-Lucent is a telecoms networking equipment and solutions company.

Earlier this year, Arbor Networks and Alcatel-Lucent announced the integration of Arbor’s Threat Management System (TMS) DDoS mitigation software into the Alcatel-Lucent 7750 Service Router (SR) family in order to help communications service providers counter the growing threat of DDOS attacks and ensuring the integrity of their networks and cloud services. By integrating Arbor’s TMS software into Alcatel-Lucent’s IP routers – wherever they are located in a given network – attacks can be detected and dealt with at the edge of the cloud, closer to the location of the attack, which is a much more effective and less costly approach.

In addition to making service providers’ cloud networks and services more resilient, this new solution also enables them to offer a cloud-based service to detect and mitigate DDoS attacks on the networks of their enterprise customers. Service providers can deliver denial-of-service ‘scrubbing’ as a cloud-based service from the same platform as virtual private network (VPN) and business Internet services, with minimal incremental investment.

The POC Laboratory gives customers the ability to see live demonstrations of this integrated technology, as well as to test various DDoS attacks and techniques, allowing customers to conduct POC trials to better understand the technologies and best practices for DDoS mitigation.
