The world most popular email service, Gmail was down for several minutes. The outage was first reported from social media network such as Facebook and Twitter.
Google’s App Status Dashboard, which offers the latest on outages and downtime for Google services such as Gmail, shows that the “service disruption” was first detected at 11 Dec 1.30AM(Malaysia Time) and restored at 2:10AM later.
The outage appears to be intermittent for the web-based Gmail and mobile, with the service first going down for some users for about 10 to 20 minutes, especially in the US.
The service disruption also affected Drive for some users and at the same time there were a number of reports that Google Chrome was crashing.
When the service came back online, Google said “We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience and continued support. Please rest assured that system reliability is a top priority at Google, and we are making continuous improvements to make our systems better.”
Google however has yet to explain the cause behind the outage.
