With the popularity of cloud-based services like Google Docs, it seems old fashion for some users to use word processors. However, a majority of people still like to work on Microsoft Word even when it comes to their phone. It seems that the popularity of Word app is still high. Now the Microsoft’s most downloaded app on Play Store for Android is the Word app. The Word app has hit the 500 million install milestone in the Play Store. This is the first instance of any app published by Microsoft (excluding Skype) to reach this number of downloads.
In order to popularize its Windows phones, Microsoft kept its full Office apps suite off competition in platforms like Android. However, when it became clear that Windows Phone is not working, it branched out to Android and iOS. Word app is now ahead of many other Office apps like Excel and PowerPoint. These apps are still in the 100 million or little more category.
