Motorola Solutions Introduces First TALKABOUT Radios with Mobile App

Just in time for the fall hunting and winter ski season, Motorola Solutions introduces the TALKABOUT T800 two-way radios with mobile app, which enables outdoor enthusiasts the ability to share and track their locations and send messages with fellow travelers while off the cellular grid.

Location Sharing, Tracking and Silent Messaging Off-Grid
Whether preparing for an extended trek in the mountains or upcoming hunting trip, the T800 radios make it easy to track individual locations and stay in touch while exploring off-grid. Users simply download the TALKABOUT app to their iPhone or Android device, then connect their smartphones to the T800 radios over Bluetooth. The app uses the T800 as a modem to send messages and locations over the radio frequencies. This functionality makes it easy to share one’s current location and send group messages to alert others of a safety concern or potential meet-up spot. Hunters will especially appreciate having the ability to send messages silently as noise can be obtrusive and disturb game. Additionally, users can set up a designated area and alert others when they are about to leave the area.

Convenient Planning and Functionality at Your Fingertips
Guides can prepare for their adventure ahead by searching area maps using the TALKABOUT app. Once the specific area is selected it can be downloaded in a variety of different map formats and shared with others in the group to help prepare for an upcoming hike or off-grid adventure. Additionally, the app enables users to control their radio settings directly from the comfort of their smartphone. From selecting channels and call tones, to adjusting weather alerts on/off, settings can be changed effortlessly using the app without ever having to pick up the radios.

Robust Communications that Goes the Distance
The TALKABOUT T800 provides extra power when needed with the push-to-talk power boost option that when activated can extend the radios’ transmission ranges by increasing the transmitter output, while conserving battery life when no power boost is needed. It features reliable two-way communication with a range of up to 35 miles, based on terrain and conditions. The data range is up to 20 miles.

Emergency Preparedness Features for Every Adventure
The T800 radios take emergency preparedness seriously with convenient features and a rugged weatherproof design. The radios meet IPX4 weatherproof standards, withstanding splashing water from any direction. In the event of a storm, everyone in the field can be prepared for changing weather conditions with access to seven National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)/ Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) weather channels and four VHF channels, which receive continuous broadcasts of local and regional weather updates. The radios also come equipped with an emergency alert feature that transmits an alert siren followed by transmission of any spoken or incidental sounds and allows users to send the signal to other radios and warn of impending danger. Emergency alerts can also be controlled by TAKLABOUT app. And, for night-time adventures or in the event of a power outage, the T800 radios are equipped with a handy built-in LED flashlight.
