MYTV Broadcasting Sdn Bhd wants the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to help resolve its ongoing payment dispute with Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM).
It was reported that MYTV owes TM over RM60 million for services rendered, which had resulted in the former’s services being suspended in several states.
“We have requested TM to uplift the service suspension immediately, so that the people can continue enjoying the service until the announcement of the official analogue switch off (ASO) date by the government,” said MYTV chief executive officer Michael Chan in a statement today.
He said MYTV has been working together with TM to find a resolution to ensure continuity of the digital terrestrial television (DTT) service and MYTV has agreed to fulfil its obligations by ASO scheduled in the first quarter of 2019, despite changes in the concession terms which are currently being finalised with the government.
Chan added that the company remains committed to achieve the government’s target to fully migrate the terrestrial television transmission from analogue to digital under the National Broadcasting Digitalisation Project.
To date, MYTV has invested more than RM400 million in this key national project, and will continue to invest more to reach ASO.
Meanwhile, all incumbent broadcasters continue to pay TM for analogue transmission services.
Currently, there are 34 DTT transmission sites covering 92.7% of the population nationwide.
