Pos Malaysia gets over 900Mbps via Tenaga Nasional Fibre Internet Service 1

Post Malaysia has posted on its Twitter a screenshot of its speedtest showcasing download speeds over 900Mbps via Tenaga Nasional’s fibre broadband network over powerline.

TNB has about 12,000km of fibre optic cables and is said to have spent RM10bil over the years. Its power lines are connected to 9.2 million customers in the country. The bulk of TNB’s fibre is on its high-voltage lines of 275KV and 132KV, and built along the North-South highway as well as interconnected to a grid. The missing puzzle is the connection to homes, where TNB would need to plant more fibre cables, especially on the 11KV lines to provide the last mile connectivity. Laying fibre into the ground it said to cost as high as RM100,000 (excluding the cost of fibre) per kilometre.

TM, on the other hand, has over 540,000km of fibre nationwide and access to more than 190,000km submarine cables worldwide.
