Primary Industries Minister Teresa Kok is demanding an apology and RM30 million in damages from a Malay right-wing leader and his group over a speech he made at a gathering in Klang yesterday, accusing her of having a personal interest in the land dispute involving the Sri Maha Mariamman Hindu temple in Puchong.
In her letter of demand issued by her lawyer SN Nair, Kok referred to a speech by Pertubuhan Jaringan Melayu Malaysia (JMM) president Azwanddin Hamzah, in which he urged the police to arrest the DAP leader.
“The statement painted her as a racist person and had abused her powers as cabinet minister,” the letter said.
Azwanddin reportedly said that one of the parties in the temple land dispute was linked to Kok.
Kok said Azwanddin should publish his apology in newspapers and media of her choice, giving him seven days to respond.
When contacted, Nair said a copy of the letter had been emailed to Azwanddin, who has since been arrested.
Kok previously denied suggestions that she was related to the developer in the Seafield temple dispute.
