Huawei has made the first page of newspapers several times in the last months, not necessarily thanks to its new devices, but following spying allegations coming from various countries.
The Chinese firm has been accused of spying for Beijing, and despite several officials denying such claims and asking for evidence in this regard, here’s founder Ren Zhengfei reiterating the same idea.
Ren explained that no government ever requested the company to share what he described as “improper information,” once again emphasizing that spying accusations are false.
“I still love my country, I support the Communist party, but I will never do anything to harm any country in the world,” he was quoted as saying by Reuters.
Ren’s daughter, Meng Wanzhou, who is also Huawei’s chief financial officer, was arrested in Canada in December on claims that she violated sanctions on Iran. She is now facing extradition to the United States.
Earlier this week, a Huawei employee was detained in Poland over spying for China. Huawei confirmed the investigation and fired the worker.
The company’s founder says China has never requested Huawei to install backdoors on its devices, pointing out that there are no laws that demand communications company to do this. There have never been any serious security incidents, he said.
While the United States and other countries consider banning Huawei equipment, Ren explains the company already has 30 contracts across the world for 5G networks.
