MCMC identifies areas that require high speed broadband upgrades

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has identified areas that have high economic impact and which require high speed broadband improvements with the fibre-optic technology facilities.

Deputy Communications and Multimedia Minister Eddie Syazlee Shith said the identified areas were not designated before, making it difficult for the government to utilise the broadband development programme fund namely the Universal Service Programme (USP).

“The problem is that areas are not designated to use the USP fund, so through the National Optics and Connectivity Fibre Plan (NFCP), the government will restore the problem.

“So more allocations through USB funds can be used to develop areas that were not previously designated with the fibre optic technology facilities,” he told reporters after launching the Program Jom Suluh Sotong 2019, here tonight.

When asked to elaborate on the selection criteria of the sites, Eddin said the areas that were selected must be those with high economic impact.
