Apple Might Repair Your Dead iPhone 6s for Free

Apple has launched a new free repair campaign for iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, as the company came across an issue that may prevent select units from powering on.

The Cupertino-based firm says it’s all because of a component that may fail, albeit, for now, no specifics on this component are available.

However, not all iPhone 6s and 6s Plus units are included in this recall, and Apple says the devices eligible for free repairs must be manufactured between October 2018 and August 2019.

This probably limits the free repair program to a pretty small number of iPhones given that most iPhones sold in the last year have been new-generation models like iPhone 8 to iPhone XS.

“Apple has determined that certain iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus devices may not power on due to a component that may fail. This issue only affects devices within a limited serial number range that were manufactured between October 2018 to August 2019,” Apple says.

Repair refunds

To determine if your iPhone 6s or 6s Plus is included in the recall program or not, head over to this page where the company offers a serial number checker.

iPhone owners whose devices might be included in the program but who already paid for repairs before the campaign launched are eligible for a refund, Apple says. Additional terms are detailed by the company itself:

“Apple may restrict or limit repair to the original country or region of purchase. If you believe your iPhone 6s or iPhone 6s Plus was affected by this issue, and you paid to repair your device, you can contact Apple about a refund. This worldwide Apple program doesn’t extend the standard warranty coverage of the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus,” Apple explains in the announcement spotted by Bloomberg.

“The program covers affected iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus devices for 2 years after the first retail sale of the unit.”

Getting in touch with an Apple Store should help you determine if your iPhone is eligible for free repairs and provide you with more information on the program.
