Apple Stops Signing iOS 13.1.3 Firmware to Prohibit Downgrades from iOS 13.2

Apple has stopped signing older iOS and iPadOS firmware to prohibit downgrades from the latest release, iOS 13.2 and iPadOS 13.2, which the tech giant announced last week.

Apple is no longer signing the iOS 13.1.2 and iOS 13.1.3 firmware that the company released last month for supported iPhone models, nor the iPadOS 13.1.2 and iPadOS 13.1.3 firmware for supported iPad devices. As such, staring November 7th, 2019, you won’t be able to downgrade from iOS 13.2 or iPadOS 13.2.

Of course, this will have a major impact on the iOS jailbreaking community, but it doesn’t affect iPad users. However, if you find iOS 13.2 or iPadOS 13.2 buggy, you now have no other choice but stick with this firmware if you already upgraded, and wait for the next release, which will be iOS 13.3 and iPadOS 13.3.

Apple does this to limit the spread of older software on its iPhone and iPad devices so that users can run the latest version, which usually is more secure and stable than previous releases. However, iOS 13.2 and iPadOS 13.2 suffer from a major multitasking issue reported by numerous users.

iOS 13.3 and iPadOS 13.3 coming later this year

Apple has already kicked off a new development cycle for iOS 13 and iPadOS 13, this time for the iOS 13.3 and iPadOS 13.3 firmware, which we believe it will fix the multitasking bug that kills apps running in background faster than expected, and also add various other improvements and new features.

Both iOS 13.3 and iPadOS 13.3 are currently available for beta testing, so if you’re experience the aforementioned issues, you may want to install them on your devices. However, we don’t encourage users to do so as these are early development releases and they might contain other bugs and issues.

iOS 13.3 and iPadOS 13.3 are expected to hit the streets for all supported iPhone and iPad devices sometime later this year, most probably in early or mid December. Until then, if you’re using iOS 13.1.2 or 13.1.3, don’t upgrade to iOS 13.2 (same goes for iPadOS).
