You Can Now Install Android on an iPhone Because Why Not

Apple’s walled garden is often the thing that pushes some people to the world of Android, but thanks to a new effort called Project Sandcastle, you can actually use Google’s mobile operating system on an iPhone.

In other words, yes, you can now install Android on the iPhone thanks to this project developed by Corellium, which is the same team that made the whole thing possible on the original iPhone.

For the time being, however, Project Sandcastle only works on the iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, and iPod Touch, and given it’s still in beta, there are a lot of things that could go wrong.

As the developing team explains, while Android 10 installs correctly on the iPhone 7, you won’t get cellular and Bluetooth support. You can, however, use Wi-Fi to connect to the Internet.

More iPhones coming soon

Needless to say, this project isn’t supposed to make Android a daily driver on an iPhone. Or at least, not right now, as there’s a lot you’re missing on, including support for Google services. This means you won’t be able to use Google apps or any other apps that are based on the Google Mobile Services. Everything else should work correctly when downloading them from other stores or using the standalone APK installers.

Another essential thing you need to keep in mind is that installing Android on an iPhone using Project Sandcastle isn’t a permanent flash of the operating system. So if you do this, once you reboot the iPhone, the Android installation is lost and the device returns to iOS.

This is both good and bad, because while you lose your existing version of Android, you can return to using the iPhone normally.

The team behind the project says support for more iPhones is on its way, as basically, all devices that can be jailbroken with checkra1n should be able to run Android as well.
