Hell Freezes Over as This iPhone X Runs Windows 10

Experiments that bring various operating systems to Android devices are nothing new, and more recently, we’ve seen several skilled engineers managing to get Windows 10 on ARM, for example, up and running on various smartphones that originally shipped with Google’s platform.

Doing the same thing with an iPhone is obviously much harder because of Apple’s walled garden, but this doesn’t necessarily mean that experimenting with a different operating system on a smartphone manufactured by the Cupertino-based tech giant is impossible.

For example, using UTM virtual machine software, someone managed to run Windows 10 on an iPhone X, as you can see in the video below.

Of course, you shouldn’t expect top notch performance, and the operating system needed some 20 minutes to load, but for the sake of an experiment, this is pretty cool.

File Explorer and everything

By the looks of things, the installation from the original ISO took approximately 2 hours, which isn’t bad at all given that some people with powerful PCs need a lot more than that to install new Windows 10 feature updates.

At the end of the day, is Windows 10 on an iPhone X any good? Not really.

Other than experimenting with the whole thing, Windows 10 obviously can’t become your daily driver on an iPhone, not only because it’s so slow, but due to the fact that it lacks hardware support and many of the features wouldn’t work anyway.

Many see an iPhone running Windows 10 as the perfect Windows phone, and at some level, it probably is. But with Microsoft already abandoning Windows 10 Mobile and now building Android phones, the dream of a modern Windows phone will probably never come true. Or at least, not anytime soon anyway.
