Microsoft Releases New Windows 10 Cumulative Updates

Microsoft has published a new batch of optional cumulative updates for several versions of Windows 10 including version 1909 (the latest stable release of the operating system).

Windows 10 version 1903 and version 1909 share the same cumulative update, just like before, and get plenty of improvements, all of which are embedded in the box after the jump.

Cumulative update KB4550945 comes with several notable fixes, including one that concerns Windows Update. According to Microsoft itself, the company came across an issue that caused Windows Update to stop responding when an update check was in progress, so after installing this new cumulative update, everything should work correctly.

Optional cumulative update

There are other welcome fixes too, such as a fix that resolves apps breaking down after upgrading from a previous version of Windows. In other words, if your apps are no longer working after upgrading from Windows 7, for instance, and you get a “Bad Image” error message, this cumulative update could actually help.

Microsoft says cumulative update KB4550945 also introduces fixes for notifications which for some reason were disabled when users connected to a VPN on a cellular network. And last but not least, it also corrects an issue causing what the company describes as “unexpected notifications” when the default apps are changed.

Keep in mind that these updates are currently available as optional, so they aren’t automatically pushed to your device via Windows Update. What you need to do is check the optional updates available screen on your device or head over to the Microsoft Update Catalog to download them manually.

All improvements in today’s new cumulative updates will also be included in the next Patch Tuesday rollout that will also come with security fixes. The next Patch Tuesday is scheduled to go live on May 12.
