You should really add some kind of timer circuit, an Arduino is more future upgradable, but a simple 555 timer and a potentiometer could help you get the timing on those welds just right.

I think DC kills faster and has no fuse (as opposed to AC), but hey, it's your funeral 😀 BTW Why not just tape copper plate to these batteries and call it a day? 😛
