  1. So CMR is much better than SMR ?
I cant wait until someone creates a 4, 6 and 8 TB SSD that only cost $249.99 to $349.99 . I also believe that humanity as a whole are still behind the times in evolution. Just saying…..

  2. I haven't had my NAS up since I moved 2 years ago, and the only other NAS I have is a 2-bay one, but I was thinking that in the future I will stay away from anything bigger than 4TB (not enough bays to move to raidz3, and bigger is asking for trouble :p ) and instead get better drives.. Seems that was a good idea as both red Pro and Gold are all CMR…

  3. For a long time I don't thrust WD disck they just die on me. At work we have one ending cs1 2..5 with 2tb, it just die with all the edition of 4 conferes and other material on it. Look I keep the original in two places. but we lost a week of work with all the art.

  4. As a note, this is the SECOND TIME Western Digital made drives incompatible with a Linux-Based filesystem.
They created a series of drives that would crash on Ext2 on certain Linux Kernels back in the late 90s.

  5. If they would advertise them as SMR hybrid it wouldn't be an issue, but they didn't.
Additionally, they gave them too small cache for their use. If they stuck a several gigabyte SDRAM Cache on the drives, they would never have an issue with SMR slowing things down unless you seriously overloaded the drive write cue. However, they are still only putting 64MB of cache on these drives. That's fine for desktop use, but they are marketing these for server use.

  6. Funny, around the times claimed in the court case I stopped buying Western Digital because the drives constantly corrupted (8 TB of data lost)… Sea Gates have been working fine.

  7. WONDERFUL! SO GLAD I BOUGHT THOSE EXACT DRIVES LISTED IN THIS VIDEO AS SMR THINKING IT WAS A GREAT BUY. SO GREAT TO KNOW THAT I INVESTED IN CRAP FROM WD THINKING "HEY, I EDIT 4K VIDEO OFF AN EXTERNAL RAID. AND WD IS AN OUSTANDING COMPANY! I'LL GIVE THEM MY MONEY!" FUCK ME RIGHT?!
