I'd put money on the camera square on the back being the exact same as Pixel 4 to save on costs by not needing to create a new component for the phone, and not so much ideas were scrapped. Anything new means additional part/tooling/assembly costs, which comes in play to the full phone price.
It's a pretty common assembly decision in automotive and other industries, just not usually so noticable.
I feel sad for Google, making such incredible phones but remains unknown by many consumers out there.

Just got a near new pixel 3 for $240 I'd say that this is a better value phone than the pixel 4a because of it's processor
