The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) announced plans for the Asia Pacific (APAC) region’s first Domain Name System (DNS) Forum. Jointly organized by ICANN and MYNIC Berhad, which is the Registry & Registrar for .MY, the inaugural APAC DNS Forum 2022 is scheduled to take place from 30 March to 1 April 2022.

To prepare participants for the APAC DNS Forum in 2022, ICANN and MYNIC will kick off a monthly webinar series beginning in September 2021 and concluding in February 2022. The six webinars will cover a range of topics which will highlight how the DNS may interest and impact different stakeholders in the Internet ecosystem ranging from DNS industry participants, domain name owners, network operators, policy makers and even end users. The first webinar is scheduled for 23 September 2021 with the topic “Understanding the Domain Name System”.

During the APAC DNS Forum 2022, regional DNS industry experts and the wider community will come together to discuss the latest developments, opportunities, and challenges in the domain name marketplace. Themed “Beyond Technology: The Revolution of DNS”, the APAC DNS Forum 2022 will feature discussions ranging from technical topics to industry trends and business opportunities, as well as broader topics like the potential impacts of regulatory, policy, and technological developments on the DNS industry.

“The APAC DNS Forum 2022 will be an excellent platform for our regional DNS community to network, exchange ideas, and explore collaboration opportunities,” said Jia-Rong Low, Vice President, Stakeholder Engagement and Managing Director, of ICANN Asia Pacific. “This will in turn help to prepare our community for greater participation in the ICANN75 Public Meeting, currently scheduled to be held in Kuala Lumpur in September 2022.”

“We are delighted to collaborate with ICANN to create greater awareness on the DNS technology and its roles in revolutionizing the digital economy,” said Datuk Hasnul Fadhly Hasan, Chief Executive Officer of MYNIC. He added, “We believe that the APAC DNS Forum 2022 is a great avenue for industry players to network with each other in the sharing of knowledge and experience, develop closer business ties, and identify new business opportunities.”

It has not yet been decided if the APAC DNS Forum 2022 will be held as a fully virtual or a hybrid regional event in which local participants can attend in person in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and the rest of the region participates virtually. More details on the event will be shared in due course.
