Lazada, Southeast Asia’s leading eCommerce platform, and the Perak State Government announced a partnership to boost eCommerce adoption and revenue for thousands of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Perak as part of the ‘Go Cashless and E-Commerce Perak’ (GLeMMER) initiative.

From 15 October to 31 December 2021, Lazada will feature Perak based businesses and products through its dedicated Shop Malaysia Online homepage on the app, and offer a bevy of exclusive deals, platform vouchers and free shipping vouchers aimed at increasing traffic and sales to their online stores. Additionally, they will be able to leverage on Lazada’s Pintar Niaga stimulus package with benefits worth RM2,000 that includes zero commission, payment and listing fees, RM150 worth of free marketing solutions credits and free shipping to lower their barriers of entry into eCommerce.

New Perak sellers will also be eligible to take part in Lazada’s Start It Up, Laz It Up initiative, standing a chance to win US$10,000 worth of prizes if they launch their Lazada marketplace stores in active selling mode before 30 October (11:59 PM). Start It Up, Laz It Up is Lazada’s refreshed, easy three-step registration sign up process for aspiring entrepreneurs, social sellers and existing brick-and-mortar business owners looking to launch an online business.

“The global pandemic has evidently affected the economy and impacted many businesses. We’ve also seen many Malaysians who have lost their jobs venture into entrepreneurship to sustain their livelihoods. Through effective collaborations between the public and private sector such as our partnership with Lazada for the STeP Carnival, we aim to further accelerate Perak’s digital transformation so that we are on track with the government’s aspirations towards establishing Malaysia as the Heart of Digital ASEAN,” said YB Dato’ Zainol bin Haji Paharudin, Chairman of Perak State Exco of Rural Development, Entrepreneurs Development and Cooperatives.

“Lazada’s commitment to empower MSMEs and boost the Malaysian economy has always been a top priority. Besides lowering the barriers of entry to eCommerce, we are constantly looking for innovative ways that leverage our technology to futureproof our merchants and their businesses.  We are excited to have Perak entrepreneurs and businesses join the Lazada family, and it is especially timely given our year-end mega shopping festivals like 11.11 and 12.12 coming up soon,” said Darren Rajaratnam, Chief Operating Officer of Lazada Malaysia.

To facilitate the onboarding process, all new Perak sellers on Lazada will receive an introduction to eCommerce guide from a dedicated Lazada incubation support group. Merchants will also have access to Lazada’s full suite of technology, insights and training materials through Lazada University. Exclusive marketing campaigns like Weekly New Seller Campaign will provide real-time experience and learnings to grow a business, expand customer reach and competencies to develop effective marketing strategies.

During the same period, shoppers in Malaysia can show their support to Perak businesses and products featured on Lazada’s platform. As an added bonus, consumers purchasing from Perak merchants will receive special rebates and exciting discounts vouchers, as well as Crazy Flash Sales and Daily Free Shipping promotions.

Supporting the growth of local MSMEs on Lazada

‘Pakej Kedai Pintar’, a Lazada stimulus package for small and medium enterprises was launched in April 2020. The platform saw more than a 300 per cent increase of new sellers onboarding with a growth sales uplift that more than doubled by the end of 2020.

As part of its ongoing initiatives to aid and support local MSMEs, Lazada recently partnered with the Ministry of Finance and Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) to launch the Belanjawan 2021 ‘Shop Malaysia Online’ and ‘Go-eCommerce’ campaigns, as well as the ‘Buy Malaysia’ campaign in partnership with Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (MDT). These campaigns are running concurrently on Lazada until 31 December 2021.

Earlier this year, Lazada collaborated with Invest Selangor, Selangor Information Technology and Digital Economy Corporation (Sidec) to organise 4 E-Bazar campaigns, namely E-Bazar Raya 2020, E-Bazar 11.11 Mega Sales, E-Bazar CNY 2021 and E-Bazar Raya 2021, to stimulate the state’s economy. Lazada also joined hands with the Melaka State Government in July to host the ‘Melaka E-Bazaar’ page aimed to support and reinvigorate the local tourism industry greatly affected by the pandemic.
