Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. and Google Cloud have recently unveiled a groundbreaking multi-year partnership, aiming to integrate Google Cloud’s advanced generative artificial intelligence (AI) technology into Samsung smartphones worldwide. The collaboration kicks off with the introduction of the Samsung Galaxy S24 series, officially unveiled at the Galaxy Unpacked event in San Jose, California. Notably, Samsung holds the distinction of being the inaugural Google Cloud partner to implement Gemini Pro and Imagen 2 on Vertex AI through the cloud on its smartphone devices.

Expressing excitement about the collaboration, Janghyun Yoon, Corporate EVP and Head of Software Office of Mobile eXperience Business at Samsung Electronics, emphasized the shared commitment of Google and Samsung to making technology more accessible and beneficial for everyone. Yoon praised the Galaxy S24 series as the first smartphone equipped with Gemini Pro and Imagen 2 on Vertex AI, highlighting the result of extensive testing and collaborative efforts between the Google Cloud and Samsung teams.

Samsung’s deployment of Gemini Pro on Vertex AI for consumers signifies a significant milestone. Gemini, designed to be multimodal from the ground up, exhibits the ability to understand and seamlessly operate across diverse types of information, such as text, code, images, and video. Initially integrated with Samsung-native applications, users can leverage the summarization feature across Notes, Voice Recorder, and Keyboard. The collaboration provides Samsung with essential Google Cloud features, including security, safety, privacy, and data compliance.

Furthermore, users of the Galaxy S24 series can immediately experience the benefits of Imagen 2, Google’s cutting-edge text-to-image diffusion technology developed by Google DeepMind. With Imagen 2 on Vertex AI, Samsung introduces safe and intuitive photo-editing capabilities through the Generative Edit feature in the Galaxy S24’s Gallery application.

In addition to these advancements, Samsung is at the forefront of testing Gemini Ultra, Google’s most powerful model designed for highly complex tasks. The Galaxy S24 series will also utilize Gemini Nano, an on-device Large Language Model (LLM) integrated into the Android 14 operating system, representing the most efficient model of Gemini for on-device tasks.

Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud, emphasized the tremendous potential of generative AI to enhance mobile experiences, fostering stronger connections and communication for millions. Kurian highlighted that through Gemini, Samsung developers can leverage Google Cloud’s world-class infrastructure, cutting-edge performance, and flexibility to deliver secure, reliable, and engaging generative AI-powered applications on Samsung smartphone devices. The partnership marks a significant step towards creating meaningful and innovative mobile experiences for users worldwide.
